76.9 Million Domains Registered

Verisign has reported that global domain name registrations have reached 76.9 million, with 6.7 domains registered in Q1 of 2005.

.XXX Domains

It looks like the domain extension .xxx will become a reality.  ICANN has accepted the application by the ICM Registry.  It would be great if we could get government regulations forcing all sites with adult content to move to a .xxx domain then filtering adult content would be a lot easier.

.MY Domain Name Names Available in the Future

The Malaysion will open up public comments until June 24th regarding the opening up of the .MY extension for registration, indicating that domains with the .my extension may be available soon.

The .MY domain could prove to be valuable for people with personal domains, much the same way the .bz extension has done for businesses.

.ES Domain Names Available Soon

The Spanish Registry will soon open up .es domain names for purchase by entities in Spain.  The Sunrise period for the .es top level domain (TLD) will begin on June 7th for Spanish Government Entities, September 5th for Spanish entities with company names and trademarks, and then October 21st for eveyone else.
